A1

A1 is a Cape Town-born and based Afro-Electronic DJ, rooted in Afro House with detours into Afro Tech and Deep House. A resident DJ for Hauskeepin Radio, he treats every set as a complete concept rather than a tracklist, shaped by feeling, the seasons and personal moments.

Behind the booth, A1 plays like he’s on the dance floor with you, not above it. People who have seen him play describe him as a DJ visibly lost in the music, dancing with the room and bringing an energy that turns the booth into part of the crowd. That connection carries through his sound, which moves between spiritual, percussive grooves and darker, techno-infused cuts, built on long build-ups, heavy drops and live layering.

His full video mixes, filmed in open-air locations where sound and setting become one experience, live on YouTube, alongside his seasonal mix series like ‘Summer Summer’ and ‘Cold Cuts’, which you can find on SoundCloud. Outdoors, his sets feel open and uplifting; in a club or warehouse, they get deeper and darker. His latest mix, filmed in a canola field, passed 95,000 views in its first three weeks.
