HIGHTS

HIGHTS, formerly known as High Soundsystem, was born as Rutger Heij in Dordrecht, a town in the Netherlands. Raised alongside his brother and sister, he absorbed Hip-Hop, House, Trance, Rock, R&B and South American music early. Even as a child, he could mathematically dissect music, isolating every individual element entirely within his mind.

That rare instinct evolved when his parents gave him a game called Music 2000 for the Sony PlayStation. What began as playful experimentation soon transformed into obsession, crafting rhythm-heavy productions layered with African-inspired percussion. House music entered his world through his uncle, DJ DARIK, whose influence permanently shaped Rutger’s direction and artistic ambition.

Following his uncle’s untimely passing, Rutger committed himself fully to DJ culture, guided by his cousin Dennis while sharpening his technical identity behind the decks. His rise into clubs came naturally. Today, HIGHTS channels that journey into his labels, Obvious Records and High on Life, both dedicated to pushing forward-thinking, groove-driven House music with character, emotion, and precision.
