She identified as a woman from a young age, facing discrimination from society and her family. At six years old, she started working and later managed her family’s tavern until local regulations forced its closure. Seeking a better life, she moved to Vilanova i la Geltrú and worked in various jobs. Her journey took her to Paris, where she became a vedette at just 16 years old. In the 1960s, she lived in Torremolinos, where she discovered freedom among the LGTBI community at Pasaje Begoña. After undergoing gender-affirming surgery in Casablanca, she moved to Barcelona and built a successful career as a copla singer. She performed across Europe and America, eventually founding her own company, "Manolita Chen." Despite her fame, she was arrested multiple times under Franco’s regime. In 1985, Manolita became the first transgender adoptive mother in Spain, adopting three children, including one with Down syndrome. Her fame grew in the 1980s after appearing on national television. She faced legal disputes with another company using her stage name but managed to continue her career. In the 1980s, she transitioned into entrepreneurship, opening several successful businesses in her hometown and collecting art. However, her personal life suffered due to divorce, the loss of her children, and financial ruin, ultimately leading to a period in prison and the closure of her businesses.
