Based in Maputo, Mozambique, YCFRAN is a DJ and producer whose relationship with music began long before he stepped behind the decks.
Growing up, he was surrounded by sounds such as Pandza, Afro House and Kuduro, developing an early connection with rhythm and dance. Between 2018 and 2019, House Music became a deeper part of his musical identity. What began as something he simply loved listening to gradually became a desire to understand the culture, the music and the art of controlling a dancefloor.
In 2020, YCFRAN began producing his own music. Three years later, in 2023, he officially began performing as a DJ. One of the moments that changed his perspective came in September 2023, when he played a small bar equipped with an XDJ-RX2. With the support of friends, a growing passion for DJing and the desire to give the dancefloor a piece of his own story, he began taking the craft more seriously.
His sound is rooted in House and Tech House, with occasional elements of Indie Dance and Techno used to build and prepare the dancefloor. Latin Tech House became an important influence during 2023 and 2024, inspired by the energy and musical identity he discovered through international club culture.
YCFRAN describes his musical identity through three words: "ascension, creativity and diversity".
His sets are built around progression, emotion and memorable melodies. Rather than relying on peak-time records from the beginning, he believes that every dancefloor deserves preparation, regardless of the size or status of the event. His goal is to create a complete experience one where people dance, smile and leave remembering how the set made them feel.
His influences include artists such as Mochakk, Cloonee, Channel Tres, Fela Kuti, Franky Rizardo and The Martinez Brothers, each representing different aspects of the artistic identity he is developing: stage presence, curation, originality, musicality and the courage to build something beyond geographical limitations.
Since beginning his DJ career, YCFRAN has performed at venues including Opium Maputo, El Patron Lounge and South Beach. He has also shared lineups with artists such as DJ MacDonald, Carteblanche, Route 77, DJ Bavy and Cloud. His productions have been released through platforms and labels including Milky Way Records, Channel ARKHANON, Decypher Digital and House of Hustle.
Beyond his individual career, YCFRAN is also the founder of "Channel ARKHANON", an independent platform created as an outlet for his artistic freedom and a vehicle for developing music, releases, events and future collaborations. His long-term vision is to evolve Channel ARKHANON into an independent cultural movement and sustainable company, working alongside strong international partners while creating opportunities for talented Mozambican artists.
For YCFRAN, the mission extends beyond personal recognition. Mozambique has a growing pool of electronic music talent, yet its artists remain largely underrepresented in international markets. He wants to help change that creating connections between Mozambique and the wider electronic music industry while proving that an artist can come from Maputo and build a global identity without losing the culture and perspective that shaped them.
YCFRAN is still at the beginning of his journey. But that is precisely where the story becomes interesting: building from Mozambique, developing a distinctive sound, creating his own platform and working toward a future where the world knows where he came from and remembers being there at the beginning.
