XUMA is a Mexican project that fuses the rawness of black metal with the intensity of death metal, incorporating marked influences from the dark and atmospheric sound of the Scandinavian scene, particularly that consolidated in countries such as Norway and Sweden. This combination results in a dense, aggressive and enveloping sound proposal, transformed into a style of its own that reflects both its international roots and its local identity.
The founding and current members are: Iván Villa / vocals and bass, Gerardo Carrillo / second voice and rhythm guitar, Francisco Zambrano / lead guitar, Francisco García / drums.
The name XUMA was born from a deep link with the pre-Hispanic history of its place of origin. The word comes from the Purépecha language and, when translated into Spanish, means "Mist". This concept not only refers to a frequent natural phenomenon in the region, but also symbolizes mystery, introspection and darkness, central elements in the aesthetics and narrative of the band.
On July 26, 2024, XUMA made their first performance at a local festival, officially marking their stage debut. In this performance they performed for the first time the original songs that make up their debut album, a production that explores various lyrical themes: from personal battles and internal conflicts, to references to Mexican folklore and ancestral worldview.
With a proposal that balances sound aggressiveness and conceptual depth, XUMA is emerging as an emerging band within the national extreme scene, seeking to consolidate an identity that honors both the tradition of dark metal and the cultural roots of their land
