Wahaj

Wahaj is a Melbourne DJ drawn to the space where nostalgia meets the dance floor. Their sets run from the sensual swing of late '90s and early 2000s R&B to the pulse of house and techno, tied together by a deep love of groove in all its forms.

With a discerning ear and an instinctive sense of movement, Wahaj plays in conversation with the crowd. Familiar sounds find unexpected company. Rhythms are given room to breathe. Energy gathers, then breaks. The result is playful, hypnotic and immediate, a sound that carries the memory of the past and the pull of the moment, always listening for what the room is asking for.

Wahaj has moved from intimate parties and independent spaces to some of Melbourne's most loved nights, including Kiki Bouba, Confide and Ultraviolet. Beyond the booth, their mixes have found homes on Skylab radio, in Area 3000's Heatwave series, and on wovxn, a mixtape series celebrating FLINTA* and queer creatives.

At the heart of it all is a belief in the dance floor as a place for pleasure, connection and collective release. Less concerned with fitting a genre than with creating a feeling, each set is an invitation to get lost in the moment: the right track arrives at the right time, bodies move together, and for a little while the whole room moves as one.
