Born in Rustenburg and raised on a farm in the North West, Petrus Geyer — better known as Synth Peter — has carved out a singular space in South Africa’s alternative electronic scene. His music is built for the floor: heavy, bouncy basslines, sound design that is unique to Synth Peter, and raw, zef Afrikaans vocals that feel both nostalgic and completely current.

Since his first releases in 2019, Synth Peter has developed a sound that is unmistakably his own — high-energy, homegrown, and proudly “doef-doef.” His debut album Die Toekoms Is Synth announced him as a legit artist / music producer. It went to #1 on the Apple Music Afrikaans Albums chart, earned a SAMA nomination for best pop album, and delivered the lockdown anthem “Doef Doef,” a track that captured a moment and still travels. Follow-up singles including the gold-certified “Hier Om Te Dans,” “Sorry Pappa,” “Welkom in die Wildtuin,” and “Lekke Fu*ked Up” have only deepened his footprint and gained him a cult following of fun loving Afrikaans Youth.
