Sonny John Moore, globally known as Skrillex, is a visionary record producer, DJ, musician, and singer-songwriter from Highland Park, Los Angeles. With a career that has transformed the landscape of contemporary sound, Moore holds the record for the most Grammy Awards won by an electronic artist, with a total of 8 wins, and was named MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year. The creative giant's journey began as a skateboarding teen who joined the iconic post-hardcore band From First To Last in 2004 as lead singer. After recording two albums with the group, he embarked on a solo career at age 19. In 2009, he began distributing his own EPs for free on MySpace under the name Skrillex, laying the groundwork for what would become a cultural revolution. The definitive turning point came in 2010 with the release of the seminal Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP. This work not only sparked the worldwide explosion of Dubstep but also earned him critical acclaim, sold-out venues, and his first Grammy Awards. Skrillex's versatility allows him to navigate between the underground and the mainstream with ease. His collaborations span a massive musical spectrum, including artists such as Justin Bieber, FKA Twigs, Kanye West, M.I.A., Ty Dolla Sign, Kid Cudi, Boys Noize, Camila Cabello, and ASAP Rocky. His side project Jack U, formed with Diplo, reached #1 on the US Dance charts with their eponymous album, featuring the 4x platinum hit "Where Are U Now" (ft. Justin Bieber). He later produced Bieber's 8x platinum smash "Sorry," which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond his work as a performer and producer, Moore has proven to be an industry visionary through his label, OWSLA. From this platform, he has launched the careers of some of the most powerful names in electronic music, including Marshmello, Zedd, Porter Robinson, and Mija. In recent years, following an intense period of creative work between Los Angeles, Japan, and London (where he currently resides and collaborates with figures like Fred again.. and Four Tet), Skrillex has continued to shift the musical landscape with albums like Quest For Fire and Don't Get Too Close. His constant evolution into genres like UK Garage, Grime, and Bass Music proves that his commitment to sonic innovation remains the driving force of his career, continuing his legacy of changing the rules of global music.
