Full bio

Born in Transylvania, Romania, Oliviu grew up surrounded by the quiet, grounding landscapes. His connection to electronic music took root in 1992, sparked by imported cassettes and CDs sent directly from Germany. These early recordings immersed him in techno and its surrounding sub-genres at a formative age. Before stepping behind the decks, Oliviu engaged with the scene through product and event photography. Documenting the energy of the dancefloor from behind the lens ultimately ignited his desire to create it. That transition was cemented after witnessing James Zabiela perform live - a defining moment that, alongside the influence of electronic music pioneers like Sasha, John Digweed, Deep Dish, and Sven Väth, launched his pursuit of DJing.

By 2007, Oliviu’s technical precision, broad musical palette, and uncompromised underground philosophy quickly caught public and industry attention. Dubbed “the party starter” by Nights.ro, he rapidly became a fixture across Romania’s most respected venues, including Kristal Glam Club, Studio Martin, Zebra, Space, The Moose, and Hipnotic. His presence expanded to major regional festivals and events, from Félsziget, Yellow Fest, and Iureș Dance Festival to the official Nights.ro Awards and Anniversary showcases. Driven by a vision to cultivate a pure, uncommercialized space for electronic music, Oliviu founded Underground Romanian Sound (URS)—a collective of artists dedicated to the deeper, intricate facets of minimal and techno. He also played a key role in launching bipolar (::), an ambitious project that helped shape the modern landscape of Romanian nightlife.

Oliviu’s reputation quickly extended beyond Eastern Europe. He made history as the first Romanian DJ to undertake a major headline tour in Asia, joining forces with Kamome for an extensive tour across Japan. His performances spanned Tokyo’s world-renowned venues - including Womb and Eleven alongside intimate sets at Galaxy and DUB in Yokohama, and LUV.Co at Yokohama Akarenga Park. Over nearly two decades of international touring, Oliviu has shared the booth with a distinguished roster of local and international selectors. His co-performances include Ro-minimal artists such as Petre Inspirescu, Praslea, Dan Andrei, Suciu, Herodot, Dorian Paic, Nastia, Nima Gorji, Boris Werner, Alex Niggerman, Coyu, Prok & Fitch, Jay Lumen, Simina Grigoriu, Moshic, Ali Nasser, and Negru.

In the studio, Oliviu’s production work mirrors his refined selectorial style - focusing on groove, acoustic depth, and spatial texture. His catalog includes influential releases across respected labels such as Dot One Records, RealMusic, Vilena Records, and Arteria Music Label. Collaborative works like "Feeling Better Now" and "OAS" (with Cristian Ciausu on Dot One) alongside "Wheels" and "Modernity" (with Derek on RealMusic) earned widespread support from established selectors across the global circuit. His contributions to the scene earned him nominations for Best Newcomer and Best Breakthrough at the Nights.Romania Awards, as well as a nomination for Best South East European Techno DJ at the SEEME Sofia Awards.

As a selector, producer, and sound designer, Oliviu’s sound bridges hypnotic microhouse, driving minimal techno, IDM, and broken beats. In recent years, his artistic focus has expanded into live modular ambient synthesis, highlighted by his September 2023 release, Euforia: A modular mantra for sleep.

Today, Oliviu channels his 20-year archive anchored by the belief that music is an active, unfolding story. Oliviu continues to bridge raw Carpathian authenticity with international horizons - delivering sound designed not just to be heard, but to be deeply felt through time and space. And so, the best is yet to come.
