Full bio

Modeselektor is the Berlin-based duo of Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary, who grew up in Woltersdorf and Rüdersdorf, just east of the city, and emerged from the rave scene of post-Wall Berlin. Performing under the name since 1996, they built a signature sound that refuses genre borders — techno, IDM, electro, hip-hop and bass collide in productions and live shows defined by raw energy and absurdist humor, with visuals by long-time collaborators Pfadfinderei. Signed to Ellen Allien's BPitch Control in 2000, they debuted with "In Loving Memory" (2001) before the albums "Hello Mom!" (2005) and "Happy Birthday!" (2007) brought them international recognition. Radiohead invited them on tour, Thom Yorke became a recurring guest vocalist, and remix work followed for Björk, Radiohead, Miss Kittin and Paul Kalkbrenner, among others. In 2009 they founded Monkeytown Records, home to their albums "Monkeytown" (2011) and "Who Else" (2019), and ran the dancefloor-focused 50WEAPONS until 2015 before reviving their techno imprint Seilscheibenpfeiler in 2018. As Moderat, their trio with Apparat, they reached the top five of the German, Austrian and Swiss album charts with "III" (2016) and headlined stages from Coachella to Sónar. In March 2026 they opened a new chapter with "Classics Vol. 1 (We tried hard and failed again... enjoy!)", reworking their own canon, and are touring it through 2026 in two formats: Modeselektor Live and Modeselektor Classic Live.
