MELCHOR ONCA
DJ · Producer · Electronic Music · Techno
Melchor Onca is a DJ and producer of electronic music linked to the techno scene in Barcelona and Catalonia, with a career that combines booth, musical production and a constant search for new forms of expression within electronica. His career has developed between techno, tech house and deeper, hypnotic and melodic aspects of the genre, building over the years an identity that is not limited to a single sound.
His philosophy is based on a simple idea: an electronic session must tell a story. Technique is important, but it is always at the service of the music, the atmosphere and the connection that is created with the audience. This conception has marked both his work as a DJ and his productions, in which forceful rhythms, hypnotic sequences, melodies, spatial textures and more experimental elements coexist.
Throughout his career, Melchor Onca has released music through different labels and has appeared on compilations with numerous artists from the electronic scene. His catalog is available on international platforms such as Beatport, Spotify and Apple Music, where you can find works published from 2014 to his most recent stage.
THE FIRST RELEASES
One of the first important references in their discography is Night Noises, released in 2014. The release is made up of three tracks: Daydreaming, Night Noises and Wrapped in Lights.
This work allows us to observe some of the elements that would later continue to appear in Melchor Onca's production: structures conceived to develop progressively, special attention to atmospheres and a combination of functionality for the track and sound construction.
That same period also places Melchor Onca within the Sintetics Digital catalog. His name appears on the compilation End of the Cycle, released on October 6, 2014 with reference SD020, along with producers such as Ivan Komlinovic, Polygon, Aurora Crew, Isaak Grau, Spear, Artur Nikolaev, Tony Verdi, Javi Lago, Oscar Palacios, Groovycosta and other artists.
Also included in this stage is Liquid Sky Nights, published under Sintetics Digital, a reference that is part of the first years of consolidation of his professional catalog.
ZERO
In 2015 another of the relevant works of his first stage arrives: Zero, published by Underground Family Records.
The release includes three productions:
Zero Water Hybrid
The three pieces show different facets of their electronic language. "Zero" develops a structure focused on the dance floor, while "Agua" introduces a more fluid character and "Hybrid" reflects from the very concept of the title that desire to combine influences and resources.
With the passage of time, "Hybrid" and "Agua" have continued to appear among Melchor Onca's outstanding productions on digital platforms, demonstrating the continuity of that material within his catalog.
RESET AND IBIZA MUSIC
2015 also represents an important period due to its presence within the Ibiza Music environment.
Their production Reset was included in Ibiza Music Spring Compilation, a compilation released in May 2015 along with works by Frank C, Gianluca Catra, Jesus Nava, Carlos Ortega, Francesco Delgado, James Braddock, Clode, Bern Gomez, Spektral, Emilio Romo, Herman Ramos, Jean De Aza, Javi Quinto, Joe Berm, Leo Silva and Electrik Man.
"Reset" is one of the productions that has subsequently continued to stand out within its digital catalog.
The relationship with Ibiza Music would continue with his participation in Ibiza Music Compilation 2015, where Melchor Onca appears with several works.
In this compilation are Addiction, a solo production; Working Class, made with Spektral; and Push, another cut signed by Melchor Onca.
The compilation brings together artists such as Jhon P, Jair Ydan, Aitor Rewind, Spektral, Danny Rocca, Baly, Urin, Ivan Roca and Joseba DJ, placing Melchor Onca's productions within a collective project aimed at the international electronic music circuit.
His relationship with this catalogue also continued through later appearances on Ibiza Music compilations.
PERFORMANCES AND BOOTH EXPERIENCE
Melchor Onca's career is not limited to study. Direct and contact with the public are a fundamental part of his identity.
One of his publicly documented performances took place at the Festa Major de Sentmenat, within the Barrakes programme. The line-up brought together different DJs and featured as prominent names Víctor Magán and Arturo Grao, then linked to Máxima FM.
The official program announced Melchor Onca as DJ producer, associated with Underground, Sintetics and Ibiza Music.
That participation represents an essential facet of his career: transferring electronic production to the booth and sharing the stage within programs in which different approaches to dance music coexist.
To this experience is added his activity as a DJ for events and electronic music sessions, an aspect in which the reading of the track is as important as the musical selection.
Melchor Onca understands the session as a journey and not simply as a succession of songs. Progressive construction, changes in intensity, mixing compatible styles and controlling energy are central elements of his way of working.
In its current configurations it can work with a professional system based on the Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus and DJM-900 Nexus, accompanied by its own sound system for certain event formats.
His artistic activity has also been related to cultural projects and independent events, maintaining a direct connection with the local electronic scene.
FROM THE DANCE FLOOR TO MORE OPEN ELECTRONICS
Over the years, Melchor Onca's language has evolved.
Although techno is one of his main points of reference, his production has never been approached from a single label. Tech house, hypnotic techno, progressive elements, melodic structures and atmospheres of a spatial nature appear at different times in his discography.
This evolution is especially visible when comparing the material of their first releases with later works.
The search is not simply to produce more forceful music, but to ensure that each composition has its own personality.
Percussion can establish the structure, but around it appear synthesizers, melodic lines, effects, textures and environmental elements that transform each production into a sound space.
ENCELADUS AND UNDERGROUND FAMILY
In 2019 another important moment of his discography appears with Encelado, included in the UF Summer 2019 compilation, published by Underground Family Records.
The album contains both Encelado and Encelado (Minicassette Remix).
The very name of the production, inspired by one of Saturn's satellites, anticipates a conceptual line that would later acquire even more importance in Melchor Onca's creative universe: the relationship between electronic music, space, cosmos and exploration.
At UF Summer 2019 he shares the catalog with artists such as Spektral, Takeshi El Niño, Kaïs, Ulrik, Mark Rey, John P, Intimat, Hector Villalon, Brad Lee and Eric Sand.
The relationship with Underground Family Records has been especially significant within his recording career and would regain prominence years later.
WE ARE WATER
Also in 2019 he published We Are Water through the label 73 Muzik.
The production was released as a techno single and is another example of the diversity of labels through which he has developed his catalog.
"We Are Water" explores deeper territory within techno, maintaining the rhythmic character necessary for the track but giving importance to the atmosphere and the progressive evolution of the track.
The publication thus expands a discography that by then had already passed through Underground Family Records, Sintetics Digital, Ibiza Music and later 73 Muzik.
REBORN
After different personal and creative stages, in December 2023 Melchor Onca released Reborn, through Records Group.
The title has a strong conceptual load.
"Reborn" can be understood as an artistic statement: to recreate, rebuild the project and face a new stage without renouncing everything learned during the previous years.
The production exceeds eight minutes in length, recovering a conception of electronic music in which the song has the necessary time to evolve and develop its narrative.
In contrast to structures designed exclusively for short formats, Melchor Onca maintains here a vision linked to club culture: introduction, development, tension, transformation and resolution.
COSMOS: A NEW STAGE
In January 2025, one of the most representative projects of their recent evolution arrives: the EP Cosmos, released by Underground Family Records.
The work is made up of four productions:
Asteroid Atlas Melodic Cosmos
The EP works practically as a declaration of intent.
Instead of being locked into a single subgenre, the four productions travel through different territories of electronica. Beatport classifies "Asteroid" and "Melodico" within raw, deep and hypnotic aspects of techno; "Atlas" is located in the progressive house field and "Cosmos" in melodic house & techno.
That diversity defines Melchor Onca's personality well.
Asteroid is oriented towards a more experimental and hypnotic space.
Atlas introduces a progressive and atmospheric construction.
Melodico gives a central role to musicality without abandoning the electronic structure.
