Full bio

With more than three decades behind the decks, Jose Spinnin Cortes / Jose Cortes remains one of Mexico’s most respected and versatile DJs and producers. First touching turntables in 1993 and securing his first club residency by 1996, Jose quickly became a pillar of Guadalajara’s nightlife. His breakout moment came in 2005, when he won Star 69 Records’ remix contest for Offer Nissim’s “First Time” feat. Maya Simantov—an achievement that launched him onto the international remix circuit. Over the years, Jose has remixed and produced for icons like Patricia Manterola, Fey, Belanova, Amuka, Erin Hamilton, Suzanne Palmer, and Georgie Porgie, while releasing three acclaimed artist albums—Again (2008), Heaven Can Wait (2010), and This Is The Revolution (2013). His tracks have been championed by global heavyweights including Peter Rauhofer, Offer Nissim, Nacho Chapado, Taito Tikaro, DJ Paulo, Abel, Twisted Dee, and Tony Moran. Forbes Mexico even recognized him in 2016 as one of the nation’s most creative minds. Today, Jose operates under two distinct monikers: as Jose Spinnin Cortes, he delivers high-energy Circuit and Big Room sets for the world’s most exuberant dance floors; as Jose Cortes, he explores the deeper textures of Afro House, Tech House, and Melodic Techno. This dual identity fuels appearances at premier events like Bearland (his own bear-community festival), BeefDip Bear Week in Puerto Vallarta, and regular spots at Babel Club—one of Mexico’s top electronic venues- and Garden Club in Mexico City. Internationally, he has recently rocked audiences in Spain, China, and the USA, sharing stages with Roger Sanchez, DJ Chus, Crusy, Hugel, and Claptone. 2025 sees fresh studio output: the Afro House single “Tierra y Mar” (Bearlin Records) with a Tribal remix under his Spinnin alias, plus an official remix of “Yemayá” by Kristen Knight & Orishas de Las Islas (Stealth Records, Sept 19). Whether commanding a massive Circuit crowd or sculpting hypnotic grooves in an intimate underground room, Jose’s sets fuse technical mastery with a deep understanding of dance-floor energy—proving why he remains a driving force in Latin America’s electronic scene.
