Full bio

James Hype (James Edward Lee Marsland, born 1989 in Wirral, Merseyside) is one of the UK's most influential dance music exports. The Liverpool-raised, London-based DJ and producer is currently ranked #52 in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs 2025, climbing five places year-on-year, and is widely recognised for his signature four-deck mixing — a high-intensity performance style built on Hot Cue finger drumming, acapella manipulation and live edits. After cutting his teeth across club residencies in the North of England, Hype broke through in 2017 with 'More Than Friends' featuring Kelli-Leigh, which reached #1 on the UK Dance Chart, #8 on the UK Top 40 and went platinum in the UK. His 2022 single 'Ferrari' with Miggy Dela Rosa became a cross-continental phenomenon, topping the charts in Belgium, Italy and Hungary and accumulating hundreds of millions of streams. Further key releases include 'Disconnected' with Tita Lau (Beatport #1), 'Don't Wake Me Up' and 'Waterfalls.' In 2020 he launched STEREOHYPE, his own record label and apparel brand, which has since become a platform for artists including Tita Lau and Piero Pirupa. Since 2023, Hype has partnered with Italian trio MEDUZA on the 'Our House' residency at Hï Ibiza — upgraded to a 16-week season-long takeover of The Theatre on Mondays in 2025, where he debuted his SYNC visual show. A Pioneer DJ ambassador, Hype continues to headline Creamfields, Tomorrowland, EDC, Drumsheds and arena shows across the UK including the O2.
