HeiJøsh's journey into DJing started long before he ever touched a set of decks. Growing up in a family that shared a deep love for music, he spent years consuming everything from radio hits to electronic music long before he considered performing himself. Like many EDM fans of the early 2010s, he became hooked through artists such as Avicii and Martin Garrix, countless Spinnin' Records releases, and far too many hours spent watching Tomorrowland aftermovies instead of doing something productive.
The dream of becoming a DJ had always been there, but the equipment never seemed within reach. That changed in 2020. Shortly before the pandemic turned the world upside down, HeiJøsh finally started DJing himself. With clubs closed and events on hold, Twitch became his first stage. What started as livestreams from home slowly evolved into private events, club bookings, and an ever-growing presence in the local scene.
One of the biggest turning points came in 2024 when he applied to play for LOYG. What began as a simple application quickly turned into a resident position and a much deeper involvement in a community that shared many of the same values he had always brought to music: authenticity, passion and a willingness to have fun without taking yourself too seriously.
Although electronic music is now firmly at the center of what he does, his years as an open-format DJ continue to shape his entire approach behind the decks. Rather than thinking primarily in genres, HeiJøsh thinks in energy. Open-format DJing taught him to constantly observe a crowd, understand how people react, and recognize when it's time to build tension, release it, or completely change direction.
He often compares a DJ set to a good story. Not every chapter needs the same intensity, and not every moment should deliver the same emotion. The best nights are the ones that create contrast. Big moments feel bigger when they're earned. Surprises work best when nobody sees them coming.
This philosophy influences how he prepares and performs every set. Familiar melodies and recognizable vocals regularly appear where people least expect them. Mashups, sudden switches, and unexpected references are not accidents but deliberate tools that keep the audience engaged and curious about what might happen next. Whether it's a huge singalong moment, a dramatic genre change, or a clever callback hidden inside a transition, the goal is always the same: giving people a reason to stay invested from the first track to the last.
Beyond music, HeiJøsh embraces the things that make him who he is. Gaming, science fiction, technology, internet culture, and probably too many memes all play a role in his creative mindset. Those influences don't exist separately from his music; they naturally find their way into his performances, his track selections, and the personality he brings on stage.
In a scene that can sometimes take itself very seriously, HeiJøsh prefers a different approach. Professional when it matters, passionate at all times, but never afraid to have fun. At the end of the day, he believes great music should bring people together, create memories, and leave them with stories worth telling afterwards.
