Full bio

Before I had a console, before I played on stage, and long before I turned music into a profession, there was already a connection to it.

For Dilax DJ, music began to be part of his life from a very early age. On the one hand, his mother, through her tastes and the music that was played during family trips, transmitted to him from a young age a close relationship with Latin sounds, energy and musical diversity. On the other, his father aroused his curiosity for a completely different universe: the electronic music of the 80s and 90s.

That combination ended up awakening a concern that, at just 12 years old, began to transform into curiosity about the world of DJing.

Without professional teams or large stages, the first steps were at home. Learning in a self-taught way, watching videos, experimenting with different software and, literally, pressing buttons to discover what I could do with them. The first parties were with his friends, mixing from a computer while they danced around.

What started as a game and a fascination with music gradually grew into something much bigger.

During his adolescence he began experimenting with different equipment and borrowed consoles, accumulating hours of practice and discovering something that would end up defining much of his identity as a DJ: the ability to move between different styles and understand that one dance floor is never exactly the same as another.

At the age of 20 came an important moment in its history. With the support of his mother he was able to acquire his first console and begin to develop in a much more serious way what he had built for years from home.

Since then, DJing has ceased to be just a passion and has become a way of life.

A RACE BUILT ON THE TRACK:

Over the years, Dilax DJ has built its trajectory mainly in Antofagasta, participating in different spaces and stages that have been part of the evolution of the city's nightlife scene.

In his early years he was a resident of SpellCafe and later was part of Underboys Discoteque for three years. It has also been to various pubs, bars and clubs in the city, including Enkai Bar, Ciroko, Kairon Garden, Club Gordos, Ambbar, Lemon and Chungungo, as well as other spaces that have marked different stages of Antofagasta's nightlife.

His journey also led him to be part of renowned parties and communities in the city, participating as a resident DJ in Agustina, Cool and Oops, parties of the LGBT+ community, experiences that further expanded his ability to adapt to completely different audiences and environments.

One of the most important chapters of his career came with the opening of a new space in Mallplaza Antofagasta, where he had the opportunity to be part of the stage sharing the day with Noche de Brujas. In addition, he has participated as a DJ and producer of different shows held at Mallplaza.

Currently, one of the pillars of his career is Enkai Bar, where he has been a resident DJ for five years, consolidating a long-term relationship with one of the most recognized spaces in the city.

His career has also extended outside of Antofagasta, taking his musical proposal to San Pedro de Atacama, Calama, Tocopilla and La Serena.

Each place, each audience and each stage have been part of the same process: learning to listen to the track, understand its codes and discover when it is necessary to stay the course and when it is time to change it completely.

THE SOUND OF DILAX:

Musically, Dilax's identity is mainly found in House, Afro House, Melodic House, Progressive House and Latin House.

Sounds that allow him to build progressive sets, where the energy does not necessarily appear from the first minute, but develops gradually.

A set can start from a deeper, darker, or even mystical place, and then slowly move into moments of increased energy, celebration, and connection with the audience.

That to-and-fro is a fundamental part of his way of understanding music.

But to define Dilax solely by House would be an understatement.

One of the elements that most characterizes its proposal is versatility.

Over the years he has worked with a huge variety of styles and has developed the ability to adapt to situations where the court demands something completely different. Pop, reggaeton, Latin music, rock, cumbia, pachanga, classics from the 80s, 90s and 2000s, disco and different sounds are also part of his musical universe.

In fact, Pop has become one of its most recognized characteristics within the local scene, even being identified by many simply as "the DJ Pop" of the city.

And that ability to leave one genre to enter another is not seen as a contradiction, but as a tool.

Because for Dilax, being a DJ doesn't just mean having a defined style.

It means knowing when that style needs to be transformed.

READ THE TRACK:

There's a difference between just putting music on and actually building a set.

For Dilax, the second is the one that matters.

Each presentation begins with a question that is not always consciously asked: what does this track need right now?

The answer may lie in a song, in a change of energy, in an unexpected transition or even in completely abandoning the path that had been built.

That is one of the characteristics that most define his proposal: the ability to surprise.

An unexpected song can become one of the best moments of the night when it appears at the right time.

And that's where his experience comes in.

After more than 15 years behind a console, Dilax has learned that there is no single formula to make people dance. Each audience has its own language, each space has its own energy and each night has a different story.

That's why their sets seek to be progressive, but also flexible.

They can take the audience from a deeper, more immersive atmosphere to a completely festive moment. They can stay within a House and Afro House journey or, when the situation calls for it, completely break expectations and take the track towards a pop classic, a Latin song, or a sound that no one expected to hear.

Music changes.

The track too.

And the DJ must know how to change with it.

MORE THAN A PRESENTATION:

The intention behind each set is to generate emotions.

That people can forget for a moment what happens off the court and simply enjoy.

For Dilax, being behind a console does not mean being separated from the public. On the contrary: it means being part of what is happening.

Every mix, every transition, and every song seeks to bring something to that moment.

An energy.

An emotion.

A memory.

A surprise.

A song that someone did not expect to hear.

A moment in which the whole dance floor ends up singing or dancing at the same time.

Those are the moments that make the work meaningful.

Because, after so many years, the motivation is still the same as it was at those first house parties: to see people enjoying music.

The difference is that today that passion is developed in front of hundreds of people and in scenarios that once seemed far away.

THE PRESENT

Currently, Dilax DJ continues to develop his career from Antofagasta, maintaining a five-year residency at Enkai Bar and constantly adding new experiences to a career that began when he was just 12 years old.

His goal is to continue taking his proposal to new stages, clubs, discos, festivals and events, expanding his work beyond the places where he started and reaching new audiences.

There are still scenarios to conquer.

Festivals to live.

Cities to visit.

And new experiences to be built.

But there is something that has not changed since those early years: the desire to continue learning, experimenting and finding new ways to connect with people through music.

BE A DJ

After so many years, Dilax doesn't understand DJing simply as a profession.

It is a form of expression.

It's a way of telling stories without words.

It is learning to listen to hundreds of people at the same time and respond to them through music.

It is having the ability to start from scratch and, for a few hours, build together with the audience a journey that only exists that night.

And it is also proof that a passion can be transformed into a way of life when there is the will to pursue it.

From those first mixes in front of a computer, through parties with friends, borrowed consoles, the first clubs, residences, bars, stages and years of work, there is the same constant: music has always been there.

Today, Dilax DJ is still behind the console for the same reason he started.

Because he loves music.

Because he loves what happens when a song connects with a person.

And because there is no greater satisfaction than looking at the dance floor and seeing that, for a few minutes, everyone is experiencing exactly the same thing.

Music is his job. The track is his stage. And making people enjoy the trip is their purpose.
