ARIPUÄ • Brazilian born based in Australia DJ | Global Electronic • Afro • Latin • Brazilian Grooves • Organic • Middle Eastern
Brazilian-Australian DJ ARIPUÄ creates journeys across borders, cultures and rhythms. Moving through Global Electronic, Afro, Latin and Brazilian grooves, organic textures and sounds from the Middle East, her sets are built around one idea: music can take a dance floor around the world without ever losing the groove.
Behind ARIPUA is Thais Carvalho ; DJ, dancer and event producer, a combination that deeply shapes the way she approaches electronic music.
Coming from dance, Thais doesn’t experience music only through sound; she understands it through movement. Years of dancing and researching music have developed an instinctive relationship with rhythm, dynamics and energy. Behind the decks, this translates into an ability to read a room, understand when a dance floor needs tension or release, and allow a set to evolve in conversation with the people in front of her.
For ARIPUÄ, DJing is storytelling.
Rather than remaining inside one genre or geography, her selections travel. Brazilian and Latin rhythms can meet Afro-influenced electronic music; organic percussion can open into deeper electronic landscapes; Middle Eastern sounds can emerge unexpectedly before the journey moves somewhere entirely new.
The transitions between these worlds are where ARIPUA’s identity lives.
Her Brazilian roots remain an important foundation of her musical language, but curiosity has always pushed her beyond them. As a dancer and dedicated music researcher, Thais continuously explores traditional and contemporary sounds from different cultures, searching for the rhythmic connections between them and bringing those discoveries into an electronic context.
The result is music that can feel both unfamiliar and strangely familiar.
ARIPUÄ is particularly interested in those moments when a rhythm triggers recognition, when someone hears something connected to their culture, childhood, travels or memories and suddenly responds to the music differently. Creating those moments of connection is central to her work.
Her career has developed between Australia and Brazil, with performances in Brisbane, Melbourne, Byron Bay and Brasília, as well as an appearance at Island Vibe Festival in Australia.
A major performance highlight ARIPUÄ selected to open for Brazilian group Gilsons during their Australian tour, bringing her contemporary Brazilian and global electronic perspective to the concert audience.
She is also connected to Melbourne’s ISU TAKI collective, collaborating through sets within a Melbourne - Sydney - Brisbane around global sounds and cross-cultural musical exchange participating in the latest ISU TAKI events that hosted Afrosideral, Rumbo Tumba, La Payara and many others from the Latin America electronic scene.
Her work outside the DJ booth further informs her performances. As an event producer, Thais understands the architecture of a night: the relationship between artist, audience, space and atmosphere. As a dancer, she understands what makes bodies respond. And as a DJ, she brings those perspectives together.
Depending on the space, her sets can move from hypnotic and organic into deeply percussive territory, become playful and distinctly Brazilian persona, travel through Afro and Latin rhythms, or introduce sounds inspired by the Middle East, always held together by electronic music and a strong rhythmic pulse.
