Anesu

ANESU makes hip-hop that moves like soul music. Velvet vocals over hard production, playful one minute and completely unguarded the next. Born in Zimbabwe and based in Sydney, ANESU writes about queer love, diaspora and self-possession without softening any of it. Their 2022 debut MELANIN picked up nominations for Best Single and Best Live Voice at the National Live Music Awards. Singles Mrs Jackson, Clouds and Robin Hood followed on Elefant Traks, and in December 2024 their debut EP Bad Habits became the final release in that label's 25-year history. ANESU has played SXSW, Groovin the Moo, BIGSOUND, Sydney WorldPride, Perth Festival and the Sydney Opera House. Away from music ANESU facilitates music workshops for queer youth and aims to continue building community through honesty, empowerment and self trust.
